The dying trees of South Boston
By adamg on Sun, 05/31/2009 - 8:52am
Susan Labandibar is seeing a lot of dead and dying trees these days and wonders why:
... Young trees, even trees over twenty years old, are dying at an incredible rate. What does the Parks Department think? It looks like most of the street trees they are planting are not surviving. ...
With a Google map showing the location of all the dead trees on her dog-walking route.

"What does the Parks Department think?" bloggeritis
I'd think that an "activist CEO" would be one of the first people to realize that s/he can call the city and talk with the appropriate people directly. :)
Maybe someone is poisoning
Maybe someone is poisoning the trees of South Boston. Call Sherlock Hemlock!
Two nasty comments already.
Two nasty comments already. I bet they are planting the trees and then not watering them properly and not putting those water bags around them.

Good work on her part.
I clicked over to thank Susan and gave her the phone number for the city tree warden and a link to the city site on how to care for street trees.
In case anyone else spots a tree in trouble. The Boston Tree Warden's number is (617) 635.7275
Water could be a factor. They need to be watered by neighbors.
Here’s the city link on how we can care for street trees.

I'll send the link to the map the parks department so they can get it to the tree guys.
It's kind of hard to water
It's kind of hard to water trees when they're planted in a keyhole in the sidewalk. Maybe this is a sign from Gaia that trees don't belong there.
The firts of here trees I looked at has had the bark stripped off an entire side of the plant. Somehow, I'm not surprised that that particular tree isn't doing well.
I bet you're one of those
I bet you're one of those gentlemen who shakes his fist at the tree in front of his house--on the sidewalk of course--and curses it for dropping leaves on your lawn. For a lot of people, trees are just 'messy'. Are you one of those people? Am I right?

Lawn?
What's that?
I don't think so
NotWhitey can be abrasive sometimes, true ... but I doubt he dislikes trees because trees = birds!
