Southeast Asian street food in the South End
By adamg on Mon, 06/01/2009 - 7:11am
Richard Auffrey much enjoyed the food at Myers and Chang:
... After my initial visit, which went very well, I returned again yesterday afternoon for lunch, to try some more dishes. That second visit was as pleasing as the first time. There will certainly be a third visit, and a fourth, fifth, etc. ...

Not street food
That's a restaurant, not street food.
Unfortunately, street food offerings are pretty slim in Boston. You get a few hot dog or sausage carts here and there, but that's about it. It would be cool if there were good southeast asian street food in Boston.
Of course, it's all Menino's fault...
And the crepes and hot
And the crepes and hot peanuts. :)
There are food trucks around lunchtime near various universities. Mixed Asian food with an emphasis on fast and cheap, falafel, Tex-Mex, pizza.
Cambridge doesn't count
For purposes of the 'no good street food in Boston' argument, Cambridge doesn't count. I've been aware of good street food carts near MIT for decades, but that doesn't fall under the oppressive regime of il duce.
So are there good food carts near BU now? I don't go up that way terribly often. Food carts in Boston seem to me to be of only two basic types: crappy boiled hot dogs and overpriced lemonade. Just pitiful. Where's the biryani? Where's the lamb kebabs? Arepas? Empanadas? Tamales? Tacos? Cheung fun? Bahn Mai? Joong? Jerk? Dosas?
I'm a big fan of street food, in case you hadn't guessed. It's one of the things I look forward to when traveling. I could happily spend a week in NY without eating at a restaurant a single time.
You know, if one of the mayoral candidates came out on a pro-street food platform, he might win my vote.
Hear! Here!
I haven't found any boiled dogs in Boston, but more variety wouldn't hurt. I was in New York this weekend and the streetcart options were a cornucopia.
Under <strike>Jordan Marsh's</strike> Macy's Awning
Herrera's Burritos, Kebab place, nut roasters, hotdogs and sausage, fruit/veg stand, a couple other places now that spring/summer is here ... good stuff, mostly cheap.
