Local editor goes to Harvard
Bill Forry, managing editor of the Dorchester Reporter, has been awarded a yearlong Shorenstein scholarship at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government:
The full tuition Shorenstein Center Scholarship in Press and Politics is awarded to an individual who has a proven interest in issues concerning the press and politics. The scholarship supports students who wish to pursue graduate study in the field of press, politics and public policy.
To prepare for his absence, the Reporter has announced several newsroom changes. Publisher Ed Forry (Bill's father), will return to overseeing editorial and op/ed pages, while Tom Mulvoy, former managing editor of the Boston Globe, will become interim managing editor. News Editor Pete Stidman is leaving the chain by mutual consent after two years to pursue other interests. Mike Deehan of Dorchester, a partime staffer with State House News Service, joins the paper as a contributing writer. And longtime contributor Gin Dumcius, a veteran State House reporter will expand his coverage of local politics.
In addition to the Dorchester paper, the Reporter chain includes the Mattapan Reporter, the Boston Haitian Reporter and the Boston Irish Reporter.
Ed. full disclosure: I do consulting for the Reporter folks.
