Birch Street Bistro is dead to her

Awful service and Florida-size roaches out on the patio helped ensure that Tammy will not be returning to the Roslindale Square restaurant any time soon.

as for our last visit, i

as for our last visit, i completely agree on the the service aspect. i wonder if we had the same server... the food was just ok, too, nothing special. i had the lamb that had very little meat on the bone and i wasn't impressed with the calamair (geoffrey's is MUCH better!) thankfully, we were spared from cockroach sightings. i know that all restaurants have them, but if i were ever to see one in an establishment, that would be the very last time i would ever set foot in there!!

I was prepared to disagree

I was prepared to disagree and defend but I must agree with her review on a couple of points. Last time we went there we made a reservation, as soon as we arrived at the hostess stand it became clear that "reservation" means something different to them. It was pretty awkward for us and them as they pushed little tables together and sent us to wait on the chilly patio. Once we were seated the food was good, often tasty and decent portions, but never rising to amazing or must recommend levels. Our server on the other hand was great, we had three kids with us on a busy night and she took care of us at every turn. It reminds me of a vacation town restaurant that relies more on its charm and location than its quality, which is a shame since it has such potential... Oh and I hate the plastic vines on the patio trellis, tacky, tacky.

Good comparison

That's it in a nutshell. It's like a crappy beach restaurant without the beach. We remain amazed that it remains open. I guess somebody likes it, but not me.

It's a shame, because the space is so nice (the bar is lovely). And there are so many restaurants close by that are better. Next time they make you go out the back door just walk a few more steps and you'll be at Sophia's Grotto, which is actually good.

Birch Street Bistro is awesome!!!!!!

I would have to give you an a plus for describing a less than pleasant evening. I had a less than visit recently and I talked to the server. Apparently a sous chef never showed up for work and the kitchen was short on help for a couple of weekends. I was back in last night and things are back to the high standard of service and great food that I am used to when I visit there. For the person that mentioned you are amazed that they are still I open I have to wonder where you usually dine because there are not many restaurants that have the quality the Birch Street offers. As far as going over to the little craphole across the way, I have been over there before and I guess if you like looking at back fat and eating the same uninspiring food then good for you you found your thing. You should look into the history of that place talk about cockcoaches and cleanliness.

Thank G-d there aren't many restaurants that have the quality Birch Street offers.
