No small matter: Downtown workers chase down Wii thief
Boston Police report arresting a guy for trying to make off with a game console from a Portland Street business several months after he was captured on a surveillance tape making off with a game console from the same place.
Police say employees at Oasis Technology, 175 Portland St., cornered the guy in the men's room around 10:15 a.m. yesterday - allegedly holding a Wii console in a black bag that had been stolen along with an Xbox console on Jan. 27:
The black male admitted to stealing the gaming system and abruptly ran from the men's room and exited the building with the Oasis employees giving chase. Once outside, several officers conducting details observed the chase and broadcast the description of the fleeing black male. The detail officers gave chase down Portland Street and ultimately apprehended the suspect in the area of 101 Merrimack Street.
Michael Payne, 54, was charged with larcenty from a building and will face additional charges related to the January incident and several other similar thefts, police say.
Innocent, etc.
