Is that seriously what the police report said?

In this case, it refers to the screwdriver the cops say they saw one of the perps try to unload during rhe chase.

My favorite is when somebody's arrested on a charge of "uttering" (i.e., trying to pass a bad check).

What's not to be serious about?

They were using cop shorthand. The official term is "burglarious toolage".

I mean it's not just cop shorthand- it is a phrase used in court too, officially/legally.
Great term, anyway!

I always like the shorthand of "ABDW-[insert weapon]"...
so "ABDW-sword," or "ABDW-toaster oven", etc.

Most of the stuff that's considered burglarious tools is perfectly legal to carry, unless you've been strongly suspected of breaking into something. Screwdrivers and such are burglarious tools.

I wonder if anyone has been charged with having burglarious tools such as a rock, brick, bookbag swinging around on a strap, etc. I mean, if a shod foot is a dangerous weapon, then I'd think that just about anything that could break glass is a burglarious tool. Is a fist a burglarious tool?

but you are right in thinking anything can be pretty much a "tool".

The most important part of this law however is that the suspect must:

-possess with the intent to break into (building, room, vault, motor vehicle or depository) for the purpose of stealing money or property, or committing any other cimre.
