Sounds like it wasn't a public apology/retraction, and that he said a few other inflammatory things originally too:
(Of course, this would be a non-issue, if all sides could just agree to stop killing each other over who is G-d's favorite child and who gets to inherit the family house. Subdivide it already, and save the lingering resentment for the condo association meetings.)
