Allston eatery commits unforgivable sin

Nacho Patrol is forced to banish the White Horse Tavern to culinary Siberia for the crime it committed against nachos:

... Could it be? No, it couldn't possibly. Or could it?? They couldn't. They simply wouldn't! But they did. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, White Horse Tavern committed a sin so vile, so horrific, that it was heretofore unfathomable: AMERICAN CHEESE. ...

American Cheese should never

American Cheese should never be used in nachos, good call. It is not a good cheese for this sort of thing, honestly grilled cheese aside it is not a good melting cheese.

This is a clear queso

Blasphemy!

As a lover of nachos, I just had to whey in.

Oh, Cheeses!

Bad any way you slice it.

Already banished

I banished them a while ago because even though they have tables with waited service they wouldn't let my friend in since she had accidentally left her ID at home.

Thats common practice for almost all harvard ave bars.

It is common practice after a certain hour...

but the White Horse is on Brighton Ave, not Harvard Ave.

Yep

It may be, and I'm not saying that they can't do it. I'm simply not going to patron a place that doesn't have smarter policies. If you have seated service with a waitress and aren't willing to seat people without an ID just because your bar turned into a pumpkin, then I don't want to give you my money at all. For example, Sunset Tap and Grill doesn't have this problem. There are many places that don't and I go there instead.

It's the same with Allston Blanchard's overzealous carding at the door. I choose to go to a packy that doesn't card until I'm actually ready to purchase alcohol.

ID's

No reason to not have one on your person. The bar doesn't know if you're a minor or not. Can't let 'em in. That's a HUGE liability issue, one that can cost a bar its license.

*Disclaimer: I work at the White Horse.

Most of the places you come

By ShadyMilkMan | Sun, 06/28/2009 - 9:07am

Most of the places you come across that have these practices are places that have been stung in the past. It is easier for all involved if they know for a fact that every person in the establishment has an id, then there is no way to sneak beer to a minor inside the store/bar.

I think it was your friend's fault for not having her ID with her. Did she leave her wallet at home as well? How does one go to a place for dinner/drinks and not have their id with them? How did she intend on paying?

I think I know what she means...

Its one thing if you check IDs at the door for everyone who comes in, but if you let people in, sit them down for dinner, and then ask for an ID after the whole process, it simply isn't the right thing to do management wise.

Ive worked at bars like that before, and every once in a while you have to look out for those people that come in during that time before you check IDs (before 7pm?) sit down and eat, and then want to stay/"sneak" in for hours more becasue they are underage and know thats one way you can sneak into those places.
