Best pizza in Boston?

Boston.com is running a poll.

Best Pizza In Boston

I'll get up on my soapbox and tout my favorite, The Pleasant Cafe in Roslindale. If you like their pies, why not give them a vote? Or, vote for your own particular fave. At the moment, Pizzeria Regina is kicking ass, but how about giving some props to the underdogs from the neighborhoods?

(Go to the last page for the actual poll.)

That upper crust even has 8.8% is awful. If Boston knew pizza, they wouldn't be voting for that...

I totally agree upper crust sucks and is way over priced and over-rated!!

By the BU Bridge. End of discussion.

Sicilia's deep dish spinach and mushroom pizza with extra tomato sauce: best deep dish pizza outside of Chicago.

I'm a Pino's man myself. I think uppercrust is overrated. I live in west roxbury. We have the following all within about 1 miles of each other...

(in no order...)
Dino's
Tony's
Christo's
Expresso
Uppercrust
Papa Johns
West Napoli
The Real Deal.

I grew up in West Roxbury and went to high school in brookline. My favorite pizza in the area is Pino's, but West Napoli is a close second.

Although wife and kidlet prefer the Real Deal.

If your preference is for RANCH pizza, then you should be disqualified from any pizza polls.

Real Deal is sometimes decent, but often disappointing. It isn't their strong point, but if I'm jonesing for pizza and my wife wants a Reuben, it's not a bad compromise.

It comes out crispy, but not burned. The Real Deal earned my repeat business once I saw that I could request this by clicking a checkbox on the online order form.

Now all they have to do is find some kind of way to make the estimated wait reflect the number of orders in the system at any given time. It'll say "Approximately 30 Minutes" if the place is dead, or absolutely overrun. OK when ordering a pizza that will take 30 minutes no matter what, but a burger…not so much.

I have gotten DeNo's once, I honestly thought it was the worst Pizza I have ever eaten. Different Strokes for different folks I guess.

I love me the Plesant though

The fact that you have a chain pizza place in your list totally discredits you.

on Hanover St. in the North End. It's a snapshot of the old NE. A big, dark cafeteria-like room where they open the shutter at noon and sell pizza until they run out of it. $1.25 for a big square (try to get a corner) of the best Sicilian in the city. The line full of business types and 70-year-old Italian ladies with their grandkids usually snakes around the corner.

I like the Pleasant, too, but I need sauce.

Yes this is a real pizza place and priced right!! and real italians working there. How a pizza joint should be. Too bad their hours are so so limited and they are in a very hard area to get to. But hands down best pizza in Boston!! Take it form a guy from ny who really knows his pizza.

Obviously, they won't get everything, but there are several outstanding pizzas that aren't on this list. Where is T Anthony's, for example? Or my current favorite, Romano's? And anything with goat cheese on it ain't pizza.

As in the place in Rozzie Square?

up

...ain't what it used to be. I tried a couple pies a few months ago to see if they'd improved any, but they were boring at best.

That Romano's. As for T Anthony's, I had it recently and thought it was still the same good pie it's always been.

I've only ever gone in there for Mexican food. Will have to get some pizza for lunch and then enjoy it with the sunshine in Adams Park.

Or maybe I'll just get some pizza ...

We've had the pizza -- and it is not bad at all. But the other side of the menu is far more alluring to me.

Woody's, at 58 Hemenway Street is most definitely not in the South End.

I guess this means my rent is going up.

Leone's Sicilian pizza in Winter Hill, Somerville. Not really sure how places like this didn't make the list, yet two of Brighton's generic college slop shops are represented. Why not throw Rednecks' swill up there while you're at it.

up

Hmm why lash out at Pino's/Presto's when places like uppercrust make the list?

up
Voting closed 0

My comment wasn't really aimed directly at those two, but at the Brighton pizza places in general. I used to live in one of the Comm Ave rat holes like very other early 20's Boston area graduate, so I've had my fill of the cardboard shelled out by places like Red Sauce, Natalies, Roggies, Pizzanini, whatever. They are all the same...maybe Presto is a little higher on the list. But, none of them really compare to the places that are actually Italian.

Out here in the MetroWest burbs, I simply cannot find a local pizza shop I like. The closest is Bertucci's. The other night, I tried a new place (for me) in Milford, Cafe Sorrento, and didn't like it at all - wimpy crust, too much cheese, basically tasteless. A few months ago, sick of crappy pizza, the wife and I made a road trip to the ever-faithful Town Spa in Stoughton - and even that disappointed me because the crust was still barely cooked. Arrrrggghhh. After that, we heard a number of people order their pizza "well done". Huh?

I'm not looking for much, and am definitely not looking for high-end-yuppie-scum-boutique-organic-milk-fed-cheese-etc. type of pie. Just looking for a thin, crispy crust, and good sauce. Years ago ( late 70's) when I worked in Brockton, there were a number of bars like the Pleasant Cafe that had pizza I really liked - Christo's, Cape Cod Cafe, etc.

Pizza is funny, though, because there are a lot of opinions about what a great pizza is.

Next road trip is either the Pleasant or Santarpio's.

Merlinmurph:

If you like a good thin crust, and not at all soggy, The Pleasant should not disappoint.

I'm from Watertown and I can't say I've found a great pie there. There's a place called Stella's, on Mount Auburn, that's OK if I'm jonesing for pizza, but nothing to write home about. The best pizza for a not-too-far jaunt is probably Pino's in Cleveland Circle for me.

Man I had a slice at the pizza joint on Comm Ave. inbetween Unos and The Joshua Tree.....the absolute worst pizza in the history of pizza.

I cant remember the name of it though...

The pizza may not be great (never had it) but it's one of the only places in that area that's open until 3 AM.

And it was a 3am slice I should add too. But man it was horrible.

the place that is a mexican/pizza place on harvard ave somewhere between brighton ave and comm ave. Worst slice ever!! tasted like a burn cracker and that was after a night of drinking!

No, it's not you, merlinmurph. MetroWest burbs are, for the most part, abysmal for pizza. We will often road trip to Santarpio's or Lynwood Cafe in Randolph for decent pizza (still have family down in that area). Never been a big fan of Town Spa.

If you're not in the mood to travel long distances, you might want to give Bronzetti's on Route 9 in Framingham a try. It's occupying a very weird space for a restaurant but the pizza is pretty good.

We've been known to do a trip to the Lynnwood, too. I never remember how to get there - never. ;-)

I always wonder about all the sub-par pizza joints. Do people actually like their pizza? Does the owner know he makes bad pizza, or does he think he makes a pretty good one? Is it that hard to make at least a half-decent pie?

Just wonderin'....

After reading the article in the Globe last week about Upper Crust management stiffing its employees, losing in court, and then after giving the court-ordered monies back dunning each employee paycheck, I will never eat at or order from Upper Crust again. Their ads are so "we are nice guys" bull. Everyone should boycott them and find a more ethical pizza joint that actually has good pizza. Their pizza was way overrated!

The Absolute best pizza in Boston Hands down is the Same Old place on Centre Street. Super hot Pizza guy, hysterically funny staff and a huge variety of foods. They serve beer and wine too!
