A sticky issue for the Phantom Gourmet

Don't get Krissy wrong. She loves the Phantom Gourmet - especially the Web site. But she just doesn't understand how the Phantom could have picked Aunt Jemima as the best pancake syrup:

Aunt Jemima? Are you kidding me? A little credibility is lost there, Mister Phantom Gourmet. Aunt Jemima???? ...

Phantom

The Phantom Gourmet jumped the shark when it reviewed McDonald's and Domino's for its "Fast Food" show. Even host Dan Andelman noted that "we're all stupider" for having done that.

As for the syrup reviews, I'm reminded of a funny story that Christopher Kimball of America's Test Kitchen told at a live event last year. They did a blind taste test of vanilla extracts with a bunch of chefs, and as a lark they threw in the $1.99 bottle of imitation vanilla that they got at CVS as one of the 'contestants'. The others were all fancy and expensive and, of course, made with real vanilla. The overwhelming choice was, of course, the CVS vanilla -- much to the chefs' embarassment.

Small consolation

Well, at least the Phantom made it clear that he was ranking "pancake syrup" and not "maple syrup", for Aunt Jemima is to maple as Tim McCarver is to eloquence.

Nice Ads

In the found humor department, the ads de Google include one for "Mexican Vanilla" that has apparently made the FDA grade. Or so they say.

Which proves:

Sco has a major in with Google.

You caught me!

I'm using my in with Google to promote my Mexican Vanilla!

And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids and your dumb blog!
