Alleged West Roxbury criminal charged with robbing blind man at local ATM

Police say this surveillance image shows mugging in progress.
A West Roxbury man already known to police was arrested today on charges he held up a blind man at the Sovereign Bank ATM on Centre Street last month, police report.
Jerome Tate, 47, will be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court tomorrow on charges of armed robbery with a knife and abuse of the disabled. Police gave this account from the victim of the incident early on the afternoon of June 20:
He stated that while at The Sovereign Bank inside withdrawing $50.00 from the ATM some person said to him "GIVE ME THE MONEY OR I WILL STICK YOU". He then said that the person put him in a head lock and took his wallet that contained $24.00 and ran out of the bank.
Police say Tate "has a history of larcenies in the area" (dating back to at least 2006 - second item) and add that he returned to the bank and unsuccessfully tried to use the victim's stolen credit card to withdraw money from the ATM.
Innocent, etc.

Should the title read
Should the title read "robbing man blind" ?
I think Will should be the judge and jury this one..
Will?
Robbing a blind guy?
I'd love a public execution for this one. Hang him in front of everybody in City Hall Plaza. This town's big on colonial history, let's get a legitimate reenactment.
Blind man got robbed
I think people are now smart enough that's why Criminal's are now robbing handicap people. I think Cops should take a strong step against these cheap criminal's.
At first glance
the perp looks like Adam.
Wait a minute. This looks
Wait a minute. This looks like a hugging, not a mugging! Who's playing The Electric Company with the headlines today?
The sad thing
I don't personally know the victim, but I know who he is - you see him all the time on Centre Street (I can even tell you where he buys lunch) and everybody looks out for him (and everybody who knows him will recognize him instantly just from what you can see in the photo) and this two-bit PoS (alleged PoS until proven guilty, of course) who probably also knows who he is since he apparently spends even more time on Centre Street than I do hurts this poor guy. It sucks.
I realize I was probably a
I realize I was probably a bit more flip than I should've been in that earlier comment (seriously, mugging a blind guy? What, were there no babies with candy around?) but I think that perp's smile is just ... man. It looks like a candid snapshot of friends palling around.
But if the perp is intentionally (allegedly) smiling for the camera, man. That's low as all hell and I hope he gets hauled in, locked up, and taken down nine or twelve pegs.
And my comment was before I knew ...
He was challenged in his own way. Still ...
Alleged PoS?
He has other larcenies under his belt. Whether or not he is convicted of this, I think PoS applies here.
See update that Adam linked, further down
The suspect is officially recognized as being mentally retarded. There are different societal expectations for them.

GILLIGAN!!
GILLIGAN!!
Tate better look out
About the only thing most other criminals don't tolerate in jail other than a kiddy diddler is someone who victimizes the elderly or the handicapped.
Tate just painted a giant target on his back if he ever goes to jail.
Globe reports alleged robber has his own handicap
Handicapped man charged with robbing blind man.
Of course he does
He is clearly impaired of judgement and probably mentally retarded if this is his idea of making a living.
Tee-Hee!
Watch out, Kaz! You might end up as exhibit A :-)

Fortunately
Good thing for me the commenters at the Herald and Globe are the ones who go around saying things like "I'll kill him if I see him". I was just pointing out that he won't last long in jail as "the guy who robbed the blind".
Also, no matter what kind of face his sister wants to put on him, this isn't his first larceny. Police were already familiar with him before this. Whether he goes to jail or a state mental facility, he needs to be held until he's not a danger to others.
