A Boston crime site

UPDATE: Although the violent-crimes URL below still works, please see this update for more details on a new URL.

When thugs in mini-vans bring firefights to elementary schools, when the mayor decides public safety trumps the First Amendment, well, we've got some problems.

I've started putting together a Boston crime site to chart what's happening and to give folks a place to talk about it. Boston Violent Crime is the very alpha-ish version. Right now, it's basically just a Google Maps mashup showing violent crimes over the past month or so (except for rape; that doesn't tend to get reported publicly). Over the weekend, I'll integrate a forum and relevant links (technically: I have to decide between Movable Type and Drupal). What would you want to see or get out of a site like this?

It would be helpful if the crimes had some date information. How about color-coding the markers according to how long ago the crime was? And perhaps different markers for different types of crimes?
