John acknowledges Boston's growing problem with violent crime. But he says the Herald is running amok with its crime and police coverage (such as ridiculing Tom Menino for his outrage over "Stop Snitching" t-shirts):

... If I were the cynical type, I might think there was something else going on here. Isn't crime good for tabloid newsstand sales? Reducing violent crime in the city might be the last thing the owners of the Herald want to see. ...

Carpundit agrees, saying the Herald is trying to start fires:
