You don't normally need to sign a release just to get a burger

John from Cambridge filed this report this afternoon:

Just got back from lunch at Mr. Bartley's in Harvard Sq. where Food Network is recording an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. They had fill
lights all around the restaurant and everyone had to sign release forms before leaving. When we left at 12:45, the standard block-long line had formed outside. No sign of Guy Fieri.

Just out of curiosity, why would you agree to sign a release if you are leaving? Where is the upside/carrot/stick for you? I could see doing so if they said to you, "sorry, can't eat here today unless you sign this release" and you really, really wanted a burger. But afterward?

If they keep you from leaving, that's false imprisonment. Dial 911, and Cambridge PD will be happy to show them what real, legal imprisonment is.

They can't detain you against your will if you won't sign their release. All that will happen is that they'll blur your face out in post-production so that you're not recognizable when the show airs.

Or you can just sign the form and spend the rest of your time there trying to give Guy Fieri bunny ears on camera.

Figures that that douchebag Guy Fieri would be into Bartley's, the most overrated greasepit in burgerdom.

...he was busy filming another TGIFriday's commercial

Honestly, how can anybody regard themselves an expert on anything edible when they endorse freaky-Friday's???

That includes you too, Rachel Ray (Dunkin-freakin-donuts???) and Rocco DiSpirito (ungodly frozen pasta meals)

...it is not considered shameful for even the highest-paid celebrities to whore out their names and likenesses for endorsing any old brand that can muster a large kickback.

If they who don't need the money can get away with it, surely we can't blame B-list and C-list celebs whose marketable days are numbered for doing the same.
