Somebody's ripping through Flaherty signs in West Roxbury, Hyde Park

Cut sign

Sliced Flaherty sign at Centre and Baker streets in West Roxbury. Two large Menino signs across the street were untouched.

The Michael Flaherty campaign is still totaling up just how many of its campaign signs were damaged in a vandalism spree across West Roxbury and Hyde Park. One supporter said as many as 200 signs were damaged - large ones by having "Flaherty" excised and smaller ones by being simply slashed.

The Bulletin reports on the vandalism. Flaherty and Yoon backers blame Menino, while the Menino camp says it's had signs destroyed in the North End and Charlestown.

His goons usually aren't out quite this early.

Menino plasters his name on damn near EVERYTHING the city owns. If that isn't "early", I don't know what is.

Yesterday I was biking past a garage...a GARAGE...for city maintenance crews, right by the Fenway green line stop. Proudly emblazoned underneath the sign, "Mayor Thomas M. Menino".

Seriously isn't it illegal to use city money to plaster an individual's name on CITY PROPERTY?

Maybe we need to have people run around and "excise" his name from city property. The "senior shuttles" (aka bus the seniors to the polls on election day busses) would be a good place to start.

...to remove his name from most of the places once he's gone.

Personally I think his campaign should pay for that one and we should pass a law that prohibits names on any sign except for public purpose and proper public naming/recognition etc. The only thing the mayor's (or anybody's) name belongs on is letterhead ordered in one year quantities!

I'm not holding my breath for that law!

(you know it's gone too far when you are riding behind the city animal control vehicle - the one they throw the aggressive pit bulls in - and it says Thomas M. Menino, Mayor right under animal control - ironic ain't it?)

really, really wants Menino, Yoon, or McCrea to win? I guess it's more likely somebody who hates Flaherty for some reason.
I'm sure the BPD is hot on their trail.

We're gonna see Boston in all its inglorious essence during this mayoral campaign.

Maybe we can assign the candidates vacant storefronts in Downtown Crossing to put up their signs, sort of like the way some high schools divvy up locations for student council elections.

Bennett or some supporters have put his bumper stickers all over public property like traffic signal boxes. Little different.

...for all of the stickering, it could be that some of it was done by others with the intent of harming the Bennett campaign.

That kind of tactic is not unheard-of. For example, in at least one campaign outside of Boston, annoying robocalls falsely claiming to be for a certain candidate have been used to generate ill will for that candidate.

One might believe that the stickering is consistent with the Bennett campaign, but it's good practice to not assume unless proven.

Yeah, I don't recall whether his campaign ever admitted stickering. And even if they did, false-flag stickering would then be a good way for an underhanded adversary to harm Bennett's campaign. Not that Bennett seems to be a very credible candidate, but worse have somehow been elected in the past.

Seems like our little buddy from the Islands has been doing the bumper sticker thing for quite some time. Here is a 2006 article about little Dougie doing the exact same thing "...from Dennis to Hyannis," during his state senate run. This fool just doesn't learn! Here is the full article from wicked local:
