Let the games begin

The Mass Dems already are going after Charlie Baker. This was a click-to on the Herald website:

Already?

The timing seems very appropriate given he's announced his candidacy and has already started criticizing the incumbent. Does this surprise anyone?

This is politics, if you can't take it get out of the kitchen.

sign they're taking Baker seriously

I don't think they'd be doing this for Christy Mihos or even Kerry Healey.

Baker must put The Fear in them. With good reason, esp. in view of Patrick's low public opinion numbers. Anti-tax, pro-choice, pro-marriage equality Republican can get elected guv here.

Though Baker's channelling of El Dilettante himself, Dapper Weld, doesn't exactly inspire my crossover vote.

Democrats want to tie a

Democrats want to tie a Republican to the Big Dig? That's rich. Democrats looked the other way to keep the money flowing to the union construction jobs. It's called the Tip O'Neill Tunnel for a reason. Fron Wikipedia:

Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney proposed to name it the Liberty Tunnel. The state legislature and the Massachusetts delegation to Congress (all of whom are Democrats) opposed the choice, and it was officially named after O'Neill (a longtime Speaker of the United States House of Representatives)

The Big Dig was a cesspit of corruption that still hasn't been touched in this state. It's like an Agatha Christie mystery, where all the potential murderers are in a room together looking at each other furtively. They all have something to be guilty about, so they're all agreeing to keep their mouths shut. In this case, instead of Hercule Poirot, we have Martha Coakley, looking at her shoes while the mugs clean out the silver. For her silence, Our Martha expects to be rewarded with an anointment to the Next Higher Office available.

Vote Repub? Are you kidding me?

When Weld was gov, the national party hadn't completely gone over to the dark side. Now it's too late; the brand is ruined, the loonies are running the asylum.

If Baker ran as an Independent, I'd give him some consideration. Running as an R? You'll get my vote when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

just watch?

In the all-politics-is-local department, Baker may surprise. It's too early to say for sure, as between now and Election Day '10 represents about six political epochs.

But I never cease to be amazed at how many Mass Dems are willing to cross over for a "moderate" Republican. Look at what happened with Mitt, the ultimate empty suit. Running clearly after the national GOP had gone over to that dark side, he marketed himself as can-do, mushy moderate kinda guy, and running against Shannon O'Brien, he won, fairly handily if I recall.

like the hc debate...

Bingo

All you need to do to torpedo his campaign is tell 25-year olds like myself that his industry forces you to buy a product you don't want.

I've never been more excited in the 7 years I've been allowed to vote for the chance to vote against somebody. Between him and the awful Menino, it's gonna feel good to make my next couple of trips to the ballot box.
