Flaherty, Yoon signs defaced, replaced, defaced

Defaced Flaherty sign

A couple weeks ago, somebody sliced up a Flaherty sign at Baker and Centre streets in West Roxbury (but, gosh, left the Menino signs across the street alone). The Flaherty campaign replaced the sign. Based on what we saw yesterday, above, the vandal didn't waste any time returning.

Around the same time, somebody defaced a Yoon sign on Poplar Street in Roslindale. The Yoon campaign replaced the sign. Based on what Daniel Farnkoff saw last week, below, the vandal didn't waste any time returning.

What's interesting is that the spray pattern on both signs is very similar - look at the swirls on the left. So we're probably dealing with somebody from the Parkway area - who knows how to get from Poplar to Baker. And given which signs got hit, we're probably dealing with somebody who supports one of the other candidates, specifically one who isn't Kevin McCrea, I'm thinking.

The perp appears to be supporting an incumbent with a very strong lead in the polls. I guess that's not enough.

Will Hizzoner send down genuine marching orders to cease and desist?

....at all think it looks fishy and maybe being done by possibly Flahertys camp (Local 718)? Of the Menino workers in these areas that I know I do not see that type of behavior ocurring. Just seems a bit too trumped up. Think about it. If he is in the lead and said to be politically savy.....why would this be ok'd? Seems like a set-up.

It only takes one bonehead individual.

Menino has quite a few voting from him. While I don't fault his campaign since he has no control over it, I would like to see all of them speaking out against this type of action.

It's compatible to the actions of the birthers, teabaggers, and deathers. Turning meaningful politics and debate into a fistfight of ignorance.

Whoever is doing this has the intellect of a two year old, and the cowardice of a rat. I pray they don't have children to espouse these values on.

It's a set-up. Reminds me of a few of the set-ups whipped up by right wingers during the presidential election...

Imagine my suprise reading UH, when I must have mistakenly stumbled into the Herald user comments section. Give me a break, believe everything you read much? BTW members of local 718 took time away from thier families to replace the signs defaced the first time around..

I hear that!!! All it is, is a bunch of kids in the neighborhood! Give me a brake with the conspiracy theory... how embarrassing would it be to have a guy in his 40's to be caught with a can of spray paint in his hand & a box cutter destroying Flaherty sings????

Granted it would deserve the Florida Tag, but they wouldn't be the first.

Just Google 2008 Missing Election Signs for a few article or two of grown persons stealing or defacing signs for no good reason.

I live in West Roxbury and work for the city of Boston. Sam Yoon signs and Flaherty signs were up for weeks before Menino's sign were being put up.once Menino started putting up his signs his campaign began to deface and cut them down because the Mayor got tired of driving home and seeing all this support for other candidates. He got so mad that he fired his West Roxbury Rolsindale campaign manager and replaced him. The first order of business by the new campaign manager was to start destroying the competitions signs...How do i know this you may ask... because I'm one of the countless city workers who are being forced to work on the campaign or face losing my job ..yes we have been threatened so the only pay back i have is to leak what is going on behind the scenes ..now you know it the mayors camp is purposely defacing the signs because of growing support for other canidates

If this is true, then what you do is you go to a reputable newspaper or TV news and they check out the story and report on it while protecting you as the source.

Or you go to a lawyer, the DA, the AG, or your union... Again, if it's true.

If it's not true, then you might as well post anonymously to Internet forums, because all those other people would smack you down.

Guess you missed the sign at the corner of Centre & Grove.

It's one of those big "Good" (Menino picture) "Better" (Flaherty picture) signs. The "Better" (Flaherty) part is spray-painted out.

Sorry, didn't get a picture.
