Today's Boston riddler: How is a golf course different from a restaurant?

One can do an end-run around a Boston-only regulation on liquor licenses and the other can't. Bruce Mohl explains how, with the help of the Boston Licening Board, the city's two privately run (but municipally owned) golf courses get around a state regulation - unenforced since 1991. The regulation limits how many seasonal liquor licenses can be issued in Boston (and only Boston).

Let's review: the contract to run the city golf courses was not given to the highest bidder because Mumbles' henchmen were afraid the bidder would not allow the Mumbles cronies to keep playing golf for free. So after losing a lawsuit, rather than give in and let the high bidder get the contract, Mumbles had the city take over running the courses. Now, the city runs the courses at a loss, costing taxpayers money every day. But at least da bastid din't get da contrak. If youse know what I'm meanin.'

If what NotWhitey says is true, and what anonymous city employee "Adam" said in the thread about the signs being defaced is true, then why aren't the same guys who brought us photos of bra stuffing getting involved.

I mean, why isn't anybody ratting the guy out here? Sounds like there are enough disgruntled workers and others around - don't some have smokingly damning knowledge?
