They don't necessarily know the business conventions here, and they might have charmingly naive ideas about human decency.

And also, as the 2004 election demonstrated, at least half the country is clinically dumb as snot. So there's that, too.

7% Actually think the sun revolved around the earth. Quite a few McCain voters didn't know Hawaii was the 50th state.

Sometimes I fear for our future, as it seems blatantly obvious what the end game is.

that said, you got to be damn gullible not to miss the WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS, DONT SEND MONEY warning on craigslist.

This scam has actually been going for at least a year -- they tried to rent out Kitty O'Shea's to a friend of mine last summer. We had a good laugh when we looked it up on Google street view.

How can people not know this is a scam?? I can't understand how they are getting suckered into this.

Have they not noticed this little piece right here?

“Regarding the payment, you will be instructed to deposit the amount to a Move.com Agent from [the] United Kingdom.

That would send a red flag....

That doesn't necessarily follow from the story. Could well be that the con artist is using the good name of move.com to his advantage. My guess is that he has nothing to do with that website, nor would the bank account to which funds are wired have any connection.
