Two indicted, one sought for Hyde Park teen's death

He may not have fired the fatal shot, but the fact that he was allegedly in a gun battle with Roniel Marc was enough to get Kevin Louis, 22, of Hyde Park, indicted last week for Marc's murder, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

Prosecutors allege that Louis chased Marc through several back yards and ultimately onto Edwardson Street, where another gunman is believed to have fired a shot that killed Marc.

Duhamel Cassagnol, 21, of Milton, was indicted last week for unlawful possession of a firearm. Prosecutors charge it was Cassagnol who came packing to the party and handed his gun to Lewis. The man whom authorities believe fired the shot that killed Marc remains at large.

Prosecutors charge Louis got in an argument with Marc, 17, during a July 4, 2008 cookout on Wood Avenue that ended with the two drawing guns and shooting at each other. A 1997 Supreme Judicial Court decision held that somebody engaged in a gun battle can be charged with murder even if he doesn't fire the fatal shot.

Innocent, etc.
