Just overheard a commuter ask a friendly MBTA agent when the next 57 bus is - his response: "when it gets here.."

Sadly true

It's an unfortunate fact that the bus dispatchers at Kenmore are often unfriendly and unhelpful. However, it's also an unfortunate fact that the 57 bus route goes right through the BU campus, and there's a lot of moving-in going on, there and farther into Allston and Brighton, and I dare say there's not much more to be said about when the bus will arrive.

Based on the barrage of T alerts I've been getting, the same applies to the 66 and the 1. I don't even want to think about the routes that go through the Fenway.

On a more amusing note...

Walking to Government Center Friday night after seeing Black Moth Super Rainbow at the ICA, Allstonian and I passed through a construction zone with a yellow-coated Boston top directing traffic around it. Two cars turned the corner without registering that he was motioning for them to stop, so he walked out into the middle of the street to block their way, saying to us as he passed, "Well, maybe I should just stand out here 'n' shit." I liked that.

MBCR are a bunch of bitchy jerks too

Coming back on the late train with a group of people with bikes, from one of the stations with a ground-level platform, the train pulls up and the conductor says "I want you guys in the next car back."

"Okay."

So we get there, wait a bit, no sign of life, so I open the latch on the door, tap the button to release the floorplate, push it out of the way, and start climbing up the narrow stairs with my bike.

I'm part of the way up Mr. Big Fish Little Pond arrives and yells "HEY! I said go back to the next car, NOT TOUCH THE DOOR. YOU DON'T TOUCH THE DOOR."

"Uh, sorry, I was trying to be helpful."

"You don't touch the door, got it?"

Bitchy jerks indeed

I used to commute to work on the newburyport line. What a pain. The train I took was late or canceled twice a week. We'd be standing outside on the platform in the cold waiting for a train that was never coming. 15 minutes later, I get a text message:"t-alert train will be late" a little late to warn me about that! Then it's time for conductor roulette. Most of them would just check the ticket and be off to other things. Some would go out of their way to help out. Others were certifiable psychopaths who would scream and threaten. Some would even take to physical violence. I really don't have to put up with that shit and now the t is out $186 a month.

such excitement

I had to ask a question of the agent in Dudley recently. She did help me out, but this obviously wasn't her calling in life.

If they work for the T, it

If they work for the T, it ought to be their calling in life or they ought to act like it is. That's what all of us do if we want to keep our jobs.

I got a helpful one

At the Kenmore bus shelter, I asked which bus was next to "Longwood", and she actually clarified my question to make sure I meant Longwood Ave via Brookline Ave, and wasn't looking for the Longwood T stop. Then she told me which bus to take, and how many minutes 'til its departure.

That's sterling customer service. Give that lady an oak leaf cluster and some scrambled eggs on her hat.
