It's good to be a two sports-talk-station town

On the Boston Radio mailing list, Roger Kirk reports he fiddled between the Sports Hub and 'EEI on the way home last night to compare the two:

98.5's DA was discussing the Topic Du Jour i.e. Teddy Bruschi's retirement with callers.

The Sox had the night off, so WEEI's host was engaged in animated conversation with a caller comparing the breast size of Serena Williams to other Tennis Players.

And on my way into work this

And on my way into work this morning, WEEI was talking about the NFL while the programming on 98.5 was some clowns' snickering sex jokes about Michael Jackson, Macaulay Culkin and one of those Corey people.

morning shows

I think both stations' morning shows aren't really sports shows, they touch on sports talk on a more peripheral level. However, I've found that Toucher & Rich do a better job of keeping the balance than the wingnuts on WEEI. If Barney Frank sneezes in public, the morning guys on WEEI will dedicate 3 hours to bashing him for it.

Wellllllll

That's a holdover from BCN... the Toucher and Rich Show. It's just a morning talk show, is all.

But its a BAD morning show

I know I am not T&R's target demographic (an intelligent woman in her mid-30s) but I cannot imagine the knuckle-dragging frat boys their show seems to be geared towards. I honestly hope I never meet them--unless I have my pepper spray handy.

I am a sports fan and do not own a pink hat. But apparently their target audience prefers misogyny with their morning coffee than, I dunno, SPORTS.

I tune into their show each morning in hopes there is some sports talk... each morning I am bored to death and feel like I am eavesdropping on 14 year old boys who found their dads playboy. I just wish there were a local sports program that discussed SPORTS.

Isn't that the definition of insanity?

sorry... let me clarify

I have tuned in since they went to SportsHub to give it a chance to SEE if they possibly talk sports. I have not heard them talk sports yet. I make an effort every morning to flip the station and have not heard one mention or sports in the 3? weeks it has been on the air.

It is insanity but its a vicious little game and I keep losing! So much going on in sports right now. Sox and Pats playing and B's coming back... and I hear them talk about punching wives in the face!

quasi-intelligent woman :)

well then listen to NPR

I will listen to T&R.

-I guess not so intelligent 30 year old woman

WEEI was all sports talk

WEEI was all sports talk from 6-8 at least. For despising Toucher and Rich it seems like you listen for a long time.

"I tune into their show each

"I tune into their show each morning..."

Toucher and Rich have done their jobs.

T&R

Their "pink hat" segment should not offend you, if you are a 30-something intelligent sports fan. They are not implying that all female fans are pink hats. My girlfriend, a 20-something intelligent sports fan, laughs at that segment because she gets it. Some chicks just go to Fenway for the beer and the view of Jacoby...they aren't talking about you.

I just had to chime in and

I just had to chime in and agree with the other anon - I'm a woman in her early 30's and I tune into sports radio regularly to you know - listen - but I often have to tune out because the banter is SO misogynistic that I just can't take it anymore. Are there any female hosted radio shows about sports?

anon (not verified) | Tue, 09/01/2009 - 11:20am

misogynistic

It's funny but when women use the word misogynistic I always think they're actually men haters. I mean why do you need a special word for it? I'll let you in on a little secret: although its boorish behavior men aren't hating women that they talk about their butts or honk at them. They like them. From all the men bashing done in here me thinks some of you aren't getting too much honking.

punching women in the face = <3

good to know its not misogyny to "punch women in the face." thanks for the clarification. (That was the 'humor' I heard one morning... 'I'm going to punch my wife in the face to make you happy.' knee slapper!!!)

they love women... women who shut their mouths, get pregnant and "make me a sandwich". SQUEE!!!!

And some men wonder why

And some men wonder why women are not more into sports.

If I had to set my

If I had to set my priorities in life, boobies would be higher on the list than the retirement of a professional athlete. I'm not sayin' I want to listen to Mikey's callers, I've just sayin.'
