Today, the ants ride commuter rail

By adamg - 9/1/09 - 11:03 am

Simulation of MBTA commuter rail trains in action. Compare to the subway anthill.

Done in Java, so this must be the first example of Java on Rails (Ed. note: That's a bad joke. UPDATE: Especially since it turns out there really is Java on Rails).

How come they never move this fast when I ride them?

Capacity Illustration

This animation really shows the capacity limitations on the tracks in and out of North and South Stations at peak times. It's no wonder why if one train breaks down the whole place gets screwed.

Don't forget

This also doesn't appear to include any Amtrak traffic also entering and leaving the two Station yards (albeit more important to South Station than North Station).
