Park Street" alert just after I got to North Station (about 5:45), so I was lucky enough to avoid the problem.

The 5:55 Reading train departed without delay. However, shortly thereafter, I heard the MBCR North Side dispatcher (over the conductor's radio) instruct other departing trains to hold for an extra five minutes at the request of the MBTA due to a "Green Line service issue".

when it derailed.

Update as of 7:15 pm: They are now running a 'back and forth' shuttle train on the eastbound track between Park Street and Government Center, and running regular service between North Station and Lechmere.

Latest from Boston.com:

Service on the Green Line in downtown Boston has been disrupted this afternoon after a trolley derailed in the Government Center station, an MBTA spokesman said.

The two-car Riverside trolley had come inbound and was making a loop in the station to go outbound when it derailed. Two crewmembers but no passengers were aboard. No one was injured in the incident, which happened at about 5:50 p.m., said Joe Pesaturo. The derailment occurred at the switch where the trolley was about to reenter the station.

"It was traveling at a very low rate of speed," Pesaturo said.

Service has been interrupted on the Green Line between Government Center and North Station, Pesaturo said. People who want to go to Haymarket or North Station are being advised to go to the Downtown Crossing station and take the Orange Line, Pesaturo said.

MBTA workers will now try to get the trolley back on the rails, Pesaturo said. Only the front wheels of the first car went off the tracks. Pesaturo said he didn't know when normal service would resume.

A May 8 accident on the Green Line near the Government Center T stop injured 62 passengers and caused $9 million in damages, investigators have said. Trolley operator Aiden Quinn told investigators he was text-messaging his girlfriend before the crash. He is facing a charge of gross negligence by a person in control of a train.
