They've got to be kidding: We could be facing drought conditions soon

This just in from the weather folks at Channel 4:

This sunny stretch continues. In fact, we'll get so much sun that we could see drought conditions in a week.

Our problem seems to be that

Our problem seems to be that we get all the weather in bunches. So we have enough rain, enough snow, enough sun, enough wind etc for the year but this year we have been getting it all at the same time instead of being spread out evenly.

Are we really in for drought

Are we really in for drought conditions though?

My guess is the water levels of lakes, damns and aquifers is pretty damn heavy after the start of the summer. Most rivers have been above normal all summer....

Is it sweeps week yet? Or did they run out of things that can kill us?

The problem is many areas do

The problem is many areas do not have access to those things. When I was a kid I was always shocked to see places like Peabody put water restrictions into place in the spring after getting a huge snowfall just two months prior. My friends pools were all overflowing with MWRA water as I watched those Peabody lawns turn brown.

Drought Indicators

For real information on this subject, see the NOAA drought indicators. The Boston area is in the 90th percentile for wetness short term and 98th long-term. That is, it's very very wet.
