Deval Patrick is not going to stick needles in you

Now that they've exposed Obama's plan to kill your grandmother, the wingnuts are flooding Massachusetts with urgent warnings that Massachusetts plans to force people to get flu shots this fall.

Not true, says Domenico Bettinelli, no fan of Democrats:

... I encourage you to read the whole bill as I did. You will [read] that not only does the bill not say that a person can be vaccinated against his will, it says the exact opposite. ...

Well if an individual

Well if an individual doesn't get a shot then the government can quarantine them, which is kind of forcing them to get the shot under penalty of house arrest.

But that's nothing new

You've heard of Typhoid Mary, no?

Welcome to the entirety of human history

Find me a civilization that hasn't / doesn't practice(d) quarantine. Even the most remote villages usually have this sorted out pretty well. (Hint: If you ever find yourself far from the urban centers of Africa and come across a village where large trees have been cut down across the main paths leading to the settlement, you might want to consider going somewhere else. Somewhere really far away.)

Quarantine is nasty and rarely used. But sometimes it's necessary.

Government can always, and

Government can always, and has always been able to, quarantine you.

This is such bullshit. As

This is such bullshit.

As someone who had both the regular flu and swine flu this year, guess what:

IT'S NOT THAT BAD.

Damn it all, people are acting like it's the bubonic plague or something.

It's not that bad, except

It's not that bad, except for the people it kills.

Same with the regular flu,

By jeveuxsavoir | Sat, 09/05/2009 - 9:44pm

Same with the regular flu, which kills many more each year, and is far more dangerous to "high-risk" demographics.

Bettinelli link broken

By Kaz | Sat, 09/05/2009 - 10:07pm

You need to remove the trailing slash from the second link or you get a 403 Forbidden error.

Also, something worth pointing out from Domenico's entry is that NONE of this goes into effect (even the true quarantine abilities in the bill) unless the Governor has declared a state emergency.

By the way, quarantining isn't an internment camp or anything. It happens all the time in hospitals, particularly with tuberculosis. This whole thing is an unhealthy dose of Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt mixed with some flat out lying.

No, Dom hates Universal Hub, I'm thinking

By adamg | Sat, 09/05/2009 - 10:48pm

He seems to have blocked referrals from Universal Hub.

Gosh, I can't imagine why.

So ...

If you want to read how even a right-winger thinks the immunizationers are going too far, copy and paste:

into the location box in a new browser window.

Weird

By Kaz | Sat, 09/05/2009 - 11:04pm

So weird, considering this is how he ends his comment:

I encourage you to point others to this blog post and help me refine it if necessary with more details as they are available.

Here's a detail. Don't expect me to encourage others when you're not letting UHub do exactly that, you hypocrite.

I think it's really just the slash

By Ubermonkey | Mon, 09/07/2009 - 12:19pm

Pasting with the slash gave me the 403, pasting without the slash worked. So I don't think Dom has anything against us :)

The above has no slash. Methinks Dom is afraid of librul cooties. Here it is with the slash for comparison:
