That the Mayor is not AT his desk in any of those locations? I guess he was out fundraising.

i hope right now someone is at work with menino's empty desk at the Filene's site, crumbling Boston Common infrastructure, sleeping homeless, a T station closed at 2am as drunks fumble for their car keys, a Uhaul truck carrying recent college grads off to NYC....

Maybe Flaherty has the budget for that?

By the way - is that really Curley's desk? I'm not much for symbolism - but might be a nice touch if the next mayor put that out to pasture (maybe in a room in the Curley Mansion or Old City Hall) as a symbol of a new, more open generation in Boston politics?

Joel Brown, who doesn't live in Boston and so has no dog in our fight, explains why this empty-chair spot is so horrible:

... Sure, it's nicely shot, with hip angles and vaguely U2-ish background music, but a picture is still worth a thousand words, and the pictures here tell us Menino is a no-show. Just a few tweaks to the copy and it would make an excellent ad for one of his opponents. ...
