You think that South Carolina heckling last night was bad?
By adamg - 9/10/09 - 9:01 am
That was nothing compared to what a South Carolina congressman did to Sen. Charles Sumner of Massachusetts:
In one of the most dramatic and deeply ominous moments in the Senate's entire history, a member of the House of Representatives entered the Senate chamber and savagely beat a senator into unconsciousness.
South Carolina elected officials are often unable to control their id:

South Carolina's hillbilly redneck legislators

scary
It's frightening to see the representatives of the Republican Party think so little of their constituents as to act like such idiots during these serious times. Quite a shame.
Joe Wilson a punk? Yep. IF you support HCR, sign on
Is Republican Joe Wilson ill-behaved. Yes, he certainly is. In fact, he broke the House rules. Beyond that is Joe Wilson misinformed or prevaricating? Who cares, he's just another GOP Punk. You can sign a petition to have him censured, "On an issue as critical as health care reform, it's time to stop the lies, the misinformation, and the uncivil disruptions. Rep. Joe Wilson went way over the line by yelling 'You lie' during President Obama's speech, and Congress should censure him."
More importantly, President Obama laid out his plan for health care reform last night and today he is asking for your support, "Change this big will not happen because I ask for it. It can only come when the nation demands it. Congress knows where I stand. Now they need to hear from you." Use this link to send a note to your Congressperson and Senator in support of health care reform. Use the comment box to ask for a bill with a strong public option and no triggers. For example, "I support the president's plan with a strong public option and no triggers. Deliver your vote with these elements and you can count on mine."

Waaaaaaaah
You never saw or heard the Democrats behave like this during a Bush speech.
Unless you had your radio or TV on during the 2005 State of the Union.
I'll admit I may have missed
I'll admit I may have missed that one, but usually the opposition party (including Republicans up until last night) sits on its hands to register disapproval but shows just enough respect not to engage in booing and taunts.

So What?

I'm a Vet and my HC is free and so what. We get all screwed up in a time of war or some conflict, not that I am complaining or anything but I should get my HC for free. It is a promise made by the government to our service members that they will be taken care of after it’s all done.
What Joe Wilson did was to let his emotions get the best of him, a matter of bad timing on his part that’s all. He has apologized for his remarks and that is all that needs to be said. Big deal if he is a member of the SCV. Just because you’re a member of the SCV, doesn’t make you a Neo-Confederate or a racist. The Civil War cost the lives of so many Americans on either side or if a few people want to remember its history and honor those who fought and died that is fine by my standards. The Bill of rights guarantees the freedoms of speech and the right to exercise those beliefs. If you don’t support that right then you are no different than any other third world country. I may not believe what you believe but we live in a country where the Constitution allows us to “agree to disagree”.
Congressmen Joe Wilson’s bad timing in his remarks may seem out of place but he has the rights as all Americans do to voice his beliefs even if is words are directed towards the President of the United States for what he feels is a untruthful statement. For all of you out there who doubt the sincerity and truthfulness of Joe Wilson's comments; time will tell after the HRC is passed and then we will see “who” is being Truthful?
Sincerely, An American Veteran
cynical and divisive
Joe Wilson is trying to use the wedge issue of immigration to kill health care reform. It is cynical and divisive.
Joe's claim that Obama provoked him is laughable. It was a despicable act of disrespect for the office, never mind the person. If Wilson had a strong disagreement with George Bush he never would have called him out on national TV in a joint address to Congress.
Like the elderly who love their Medicare but want to deny others government-run health care and affordable coverage, there is the stench of hypocrisy in that position. Like the veterans who like their free government-run taxpayer-financed TRICARE but still want to deny other Americans affordable coverage, there is the stench of hypocrisy in that position. 'Good for me but tough shit for you.'
We are not taking about free taxpayer-financed health care like TRICARE, we are talking about affordable health insurance and having everybody pay in, instead of 70%.
I supported Sen. Webb's IAVA GI II bill for educational benefits et cetera even though it was expensive becuase I saw what my own father did with his GI Bill education after WWII. Reforming health care is just as important to this country in terms of our economic health. I support health care reform because we should not be paying so much for such poor results.
Wilson received a copy of Obama speech in advance and failed to realize Obama was presenting a new bill not HR 3200 but a White House proposal for health care. When Obama says illegals are ineligible under Obama's plan, how is Joe in a position to rightly challenge that? Secondly, calling the president a liar on national TV does comport with the rules of the House or basic decency.
Wilson has wrongly called other people liars including Rep Bob Filner and Strom Thurmon's daughter. Wilson called Strom Thurmon's bi-racial daughter a liar when she announced Strom was her father. It was the truth. Strom had supported her his whole life. Joe Wilson called her a liar, later relenting that she shouldn't have made a public statement. Why the fuck not? Does Joe Wilson think black love children should keep the secrets of their white philandering fathers, that the secret of Strom's fornication with a black woman is more important the truth? He also called Rep Rob Filner a liar and accused him of hating America when Filner rightly said the US supplied Saddam with chemical weapons on CSPAN. Joe Wilson's actions are indefensible.
Wilson membership in CSV is a problem. The confederacy was a secessionist movement based on the economic interest of keeping black people as property.
Dave, no, they
Dave, no, they didn't.
Unless you equate Code Pink as "Democrats", specifically congressional Democrats. I sure don't. There's a big difference between congressmen, and the Loony's on the fringe.
And don't even bother saying it's like the Brits, because it's a big no-no to call anyone in parliament a liar over the pond too too. Being a deliberative body, calling someone a liar is akin to ceasing debate and arguing in bad faith.
There's a reason people are calling for censure, and many Republicans themselves were disgusted with this childish display.
Um, no
Try again.
It was Democrat members of Congress who booed and hissed at GWB when he was talking about trying to save Social Security.
house rules
Apparently according to the House rules, there is a difference between hissing or booing and yelling epithets, like LIAR! The latter is strictly forbidden.
I'm not saying booing is civil, it's just not against the rules the way name-calling it.
Remember when Rep. Jean Schmidt implied Rep Murtha, a former marine, was a cut-and-run coward? She was roundly booed becuase she had violated the rules against name-calling.

yup, and again, some slight
yup, and again, some slight rabble is and always has been allowed. Usually it's limited to the stand and clap, or sit and frown type. Occasionally the dismissive grumble, and soft cheer.
Interruptions, name calling, and accusations are way over the line and against civility and procedure.
If you have a specific incident, please show it. Nothing of the sort is coming up on youtube besides normal stuff that wasn't over the line, except some dirty fraking hippies acting on their own accord.
Either way, it's nice to know that while conservatives will proudly justify this behavior; they don't realize the hornets nets he stepped in. His 2010 challenger has raised an impressive $400K in less then 24hrs with no sign of slowing down. And as said, many Republicans ain't happy either, believing their party is the party or law and order.
Who ever thought 2 disrespectful words could cost you so much?
Rep Joe "cracker" Wilson (R-SC)
Rep Joe "cracker" Wilson (R-SC) has been busy today getting a reach around on the air from Sean Hannity, who is trying to help Wilson rehabilitate his image.
Wilson also spoke with conservative bloggers - Erick Erickson, Jillian Bandes, and John Hawkins - including to do the same.

Joe Wilson's (R-SC) Democratic challenger Rob Miller
Republican Congressmen Joe Wilson (R-SC) has a Democratic challenger named Rob Miller. You can throw a few bucks his way by donating here if you are so inclined. So far since last night, 8194 people have donated $287377 to his campaign. A few bucks from a lot of people is a lot of money which will help Rob beat punk ass bitch Joe Wilson next November.

Who could have anticipated THAT?

Wilson's Other Shining Moment
He publically accused Strom Thurmond's elderly half-black daughter of lying - despite the fact the Thurmond had supported both her and her mother for much of their lives and provided for her education. Wilson then insisted that she was very wrong to go public with the details of her existance because it was a smear tactic.
Let's see: Thurmond was 22 when he fathered a child by a 16 year old black maid, and that daughter acknowledging her father is an evil smear.
republicans and the race card
WOW, that's an amazing back story. He's a major league asshole. And they were in the same party, republican.
Republicans love playing the race card. Nixon did it in 1968 with the southern strategy. Reagan demogogued about the black single welfare mother. Bush did it to McCain in 2000 in SOUTH CAROLINA, same charge 'black love child'. Republicans did it to Obama in 2007,2008,2009. Scary black man!!!
I'd rather be Ted Kennedy who lived a life of atonement ...well since about 1992... and did more good for more Americans than Joe Wilson, who is a scumbag and who hasn't done anything for anyone but himself and his corporate interests.

a history of ...
Long before Joe Wilson (R-SC) made a complete ass out of himself and his party on national television, he fought to keep the Confederate battle flag flying over South Carolina.
That's right -- Wilson was one of only seven members of the South Carolina Senate to vote to stick it to the blacks keep the battle flag. It was finally brought down under intense national pressure and from an NAACP boycott, which cost the state millions in tourism revenue.
Wilson was just being a good foot soldier for the Neo-Confederate cause, as he's a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, an organization teeming with white supremecists and racists.
