Hanover Street could get first psychic

Matt Conti is amazed the North End/Waterfront Residents Association voted to approve a permit request from a woman who wants to open a fortune-telling studio at 215 Hanover St.:

At the NEWRA meeting, an abutter spoke in support of the permit. The abutter owns an international real estate firm, also in the building. She believes that more traffic would be beneficial in the building. The abutter also believes the applicant has psychic ability.

The abutter almost certainly also getting a kickback from the landlord, to help them get another tenant in the building.

This is stunning news.

If I remember correctly, in recent years, NEWRA has come out against 1) a new Stop & Shop on Commercial Street (even though 50% of neighbors liked the idea of having a big market while the other 50% saw it as a threat); 2) a Starbucks anywhere in the neighborhood; 3) the building at 585 Commercial Street, even AFTER it was shortened to within zoning limits; and, 4) a Dunkin' Donuts (A DUNKIN' DONUTS!), even though one already existed until recently on Salem Street.

I don't care one way or another if a psychic opens up there, w/e. But, it's weird how they like some things but not others.
