A really hot Porsche

Mick T. was walking toward Kenmore from the Back Bay yesterday when he turned onto Charlesgate West and came upon a blazing coupe:
The car starting rolling slowly and moved about 5 feet then stopped,
then rolled slowly a few more feet, then stop and then inch forward again until it was rolling along into the intersection.

Driver?
What's particularly interesting is there was no sign of a driver, and the street, Charlesgate West, is no parking. Also, this was while there was a ball game on and there was tons of traffic around the square on a bright sunny afternoon. Usually there's a lot of traffic in that intersection and it's surprising there wasn't. I was expecting the fuel tank to explode, as on TV, but fortunately that didn't happen.
Yes, that's odd
I'd think it would at least be instinct to leave it in gear before running out of a burning car, just like every other time you leave it. Being on fire doesn't stop it from rolling.
The gas tank wouldn't explode unless the whole body got engulfed; the gas tank in the Porsche 911 is in the luggage compartment in front of the passenger compartment. Gas tank explosions usually only happen in vehicles where the tank is close to the engine compartment, like a lot of pickup trucks and vans. Even in most front-engine cars, the gas tank is under the rear seats or between the seats and trunk.
