Taking the concept of self service a bit far at South Boston convenience stores

Put that back!

Boston Police say this is from surveillance video of a guy who used a rock to smash his way into the Tedeschi's at 405 West Broadway early on Tuesday so that he could steal Newport cigarettes and scratch tickets.

Police say the guy is also wanted for similar rocky break-ins at the 7-Eleven down the street in July and August - where he also made off with smokes and scratch tickets.

He's described as a white male, 30-40, with dark hair, possibly graying at the temples. He was wearing a Sox cap with what appears to be a long-sleeve Red Sox Championship shirt. So he should be easy to spot in Southie, no? Help police narrow the field: Call District C-6 detectives at 617-343-4742, or the anonymous tip line at 800-494-TIPS.

If they have some idea which ones were taken (they would have the end of the series, but not the start), then they can flag those numbers in the system. Sooner or later, somebody will try to claim a prize, and this guy will get caught.

junkies like this guy will try to cash in the scratch tickets right away before the lottery gets notified. The Lottery just voids them and stores don't pay them out.

This actually happens a lot by store employees who will steal scratch tickets and try to cash them in at other stores. When you think about it, how much possible money is hanging there in some of these stores with 50 rolls of scratch tickets?

Possibly homeless?

Going for scratch tickets and smokes doesn't seem like something to go after in a normal B&E.

I know there's been a bunch of new homeless people hanging around the four point channel, and the two parks on W 2nd Street.
