Globe endorses eight in at-large council race

Connolly, Murphy, Pressley, Ezedi, Jackson, Arroyo, Fortes, Nguyen.
Fortes is kind of interesting: You wouldn't think the Globe would endorse a Republican calling for school vouchers over somebody like Kenneally.

Kenneally got robbed by both
Kenneally got robbed by both major dailies. I do not understand how they can support some of the people that they do but just overlook someone who has obviously had some hussle on the campaign trail, knows the issues and is very personable. Not a slam on the other candidates on the list but come in it just does not make sense. I think he will make it through the primary but if he can not get the Herald and Globe to endorse him for the final I do not see him being able to pull it off, it is just too hard to break through without that name recognition.
Mother's Hopes
The Globe's diss of him is mighty strange. He's far sharper than several of those candidates who got endorsements. Moreover, he has insightful and workable proposals for problems.
He may have suffered from both Irish-American pol fatigue and youth. Local media and voters alike seem to want first timers to fail and "earn" their seats. That's unfortunate in this case because with Flaherty and Yoon stepping back, there's a chance for good progressives to hop in.
Plus, I personally told Andrew's mom that he would surely make the preliminary cut. He still may. Globe endorsements have seldom forecast results.

I think he will make the cut, he is out there everyday shaking hands and talking to people. There is an old saying in politics that "signs don't vote, people vote" and I believe the same applies here. Endorsements do not vote. They help with name recognition but they are not a be all end all. As for being young he has an impressive resume for someone who is not even 35 yet which should be a good thing, plus if you look at other politicians in the State it is not uncommon to find elected officials in the State House younger then he is now.
Although I may be biased as I am a Kenneally backer...

Fortes is a black Republican. That earns him automatic goodwill.

I'm pretty sure you don't use the letter 'c' when spelling 'endorse.' Maybe you have a fancier dictionary than the rest of us.

Good question, if you reverse it. I never understood why the Globe and Murphy found it so easy to forgive and forget.

Globe had a long profile article
The Globe published a lengthy profile of all the Boston City Council candidates way back on August 14. I saved it for when I was ready to actually think about the race, which was about 2 days ago.

I'm doubly impressed by this year's at-large field. A blend of old and new, would be nice to have more women running, but otherwise voters have a lot of good choices.
