Sorry, CharlieTicket

The MBTA thinks CharlieTickets will help increase revenue and so is rushing to get them into use.

Pelican thinks the T has its priorities screwed up:

... I don't care how easy the CharlieTicket will be. Ridership will not increase if the T doesn't run on time, has incomprehensible signage, has unhelpful employees, and has stations that are dark and dangerous. Better fare collection will not help me when I am choosing to walk thirty minutes from MFA to downtown because it is faster than waiting on the T.

Get outta my face, Charlie

First off, I like public transit. I love books with photos of old T stations. The New York City subway museum sounds fascinating to me.

But I agree with Pelican's comments. In the face of declining ridership and multiple calls for improvement on seemingly every line, the T is rushing to implement an inconvenient systemwhich customers haven't asked for. I live near Fields Corner, and pleas for something as simple as garbage cans on the platforms have gone unheeded. When the Globe reported a mugging there on Hallween, the T declared on November 7 that they would "add mirrors along the ramps to help pedestrians see who is behind them as they exit" (see here ). When I walked through the exit in question a few days ago, there were still no mirrors, well over a month later.

Your actions show your priorities. obviously, timeliness, cleanliness, and safety of customers are lower priorities than rolling out a pet-project that may increase revenues in the short term but will do nothing if people continue to leave the T's poor service.
