As she handed them the weapon, the gun accidentally discharged, the officials said, but no one was injured.
Anyone else find it odd that they came to take her gun and it "discharged". Im not making any accusations but find that very strange. Could it have been a warning shot?
If only because when you are handing a gun over to someone else in an apartment, shouldn't it be unloaded and the breach cleared just to be certain? Isn't that just a basic rule of correct gun handling? Especially if you're turning it in? Who turns in a loaded gun?
i agree. the facts just sound strange here. it does make a difference though. if she reported it right away they could have taken a dna rape kit test. it is a lot harder to prove once the victim has showered and laundered the clothes they wore.
...why victims of sexual assault don't immediately go to the police, or go through the pain and humiliation of getting a rape kit done. yes, it dramatically increases their chances of conviction. but it's easier said than done. rape kits are an important forensic tool, but they are also oftentimes terrible to a person who has just been victimized. nail scrapings, public hair plucking and combing, photographs being taken of your naked body. this would be a challenge for an average person, but to a person who has just been assaulted, it is often unfathomably difficult.
i used to be a first time responder to hospitals, who sat with victims while they went through this. the strength and courage it took was impressive.
i am not saying this woman was or wasn't raped. it's not my place to decide. but there are very good reasons why a rape victim wouldn't be thinking straight and wouldn't want to go through this right after he or she had been assaulted.
A possible scenario (not that it's true at all!): Cop consensually cheats on her husband with another cop. She later discovers that as a result she's pregnant. Without a way to explain the pregnancy and not wanting to lose her husband, she claims that the cop raped her causing her to become pregnant.
It's not unheard of for someone to abuse rape as a means to escape a consensual relationship. The pregnancy would obviously cause there to be a problem in her marriage if her and her husband had reasons to not expect her to become pregnant.
None of this is necessarily applicable to this particular case at all. But to answer the question posed as to why the timing of her rape claim and her discovery of being pregnant might come into question, just because a woman claims she was raped does not mean she was raped and the pregnancy could give her reason to feel this would be a means out of her predicament.
did she get caught having an affair and this is all for display for her husband? I'm guessing she really knows how to write up a believable rape report.
not saying she wasn't raped, just presenting an alternate scenario
I missed that gunshot thing first time around. That's an extremely serious issue. A pistol should not go off when you drop it. They're not telling something big here.

boston police rape
did she wait until she knew she was pregnant before she reported this?
Why?
What difference would that make? Rape is rape.
rape is rape

Yes, if it's rape

I'm not sure what to think
I'm not sure what to think about this before I find out whether the fellow officer ever directed any good movies.

(plus the gun discharge thing is wicked sketchy.)

Why does the Herald not have
Why does the Herald not have this story? Guess I shouldn't be surprised
