Possible hydrogen leak at BU research center

Fire crews have evacuated the BU Photonics Center on Babbitt Street because of an alarm indicating a leak of flammable hydrogen, Local 718 tweets.

Channel 4 reports about 50 people were in the building at the time.

I always wondered when that would happen. There are gas tanks all over the place. Hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen... Its a great place to relax if you need to pass some time while in the area BTW. Restrooms are always clean.

And Mayor Menino doesn't think Boston needs a hazmat team. Why do people keep voting for this guy?

As I type this, BU seems not to have exploded, so whatever happened last night was resolved, no?

Here's Menino's argument (note, I'm not posting this as a Menino supporter; I still haven't decided whom to vote for), as made in the debate the other night:

Boston actually has five hazmat units. However, they're not simply sitting around waiting for a hazmat emergency, but are available for other duties in the time when there are no chemical spills or whatever.

And my question is: What is wrong with this approach?
