Conviction news: Murderer, bank robber guilty

A Suffolk County Superior Court Jury yesterday convicted David Copeland, 30, of first-degree murder yesterday for the July, 2008 stabbing death of John Marshall. Copeland now goes away for life, without possibility of parole for luring Copeland to a Roxbury parking lot, then stabbing him in the heart and stealing cash and crack from him as he lay there, bleeding to death.

Marshall's girlfriend, Keyana King, agreed Marshall was not doing the right thing, but told Copeland at his sentencting "that doesn't excuse what you did," and left their three children fatherless, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Marshall's mother, Susie Faggins, showed the judge her last photos of her son, taken on Mother's Day last year: "He was the oldest, and a good son. Now all I have are memories and pictures of him. He was so sweet, so kind, so loving. He always remembered my birthday.'

Meanwhile, in federal district court, Moses Caldwell pleaded guilty today to four counts of bank robbery. Caldwell, 54, acknowledged holding up Sovereign Bank and Bank of America branches downtown, a Hyde Park Cooperative Bank branch in Jamaica Plain and a Sovereign Bank branch in the Fenway between August and November of last year.

Caldwell faces sentencing on Feb. 3 of up to 20 years on each count.
