He knows how to quit Anna's Taqueria

Mike Mennonno reports he's finally had enough of sneering, snorting, obnoxious taco makers at his local Anna's:
... I've actually seen two of them gang up on a customer -- a Tufts student I think he was -- berating him for calling pico de gallo "salsa", almost bringing the poor kid to tears. They often mutter to one another in Spanish about customers who annoy them. And by the way, amigos: I know what "una puta flaca mala" means.

I hate anna's service
I had always lived near an Anna's until I moved to Brighton. I becamse used to their attitude and rudeness and eventually accepted it. Now that I am a block from Boca Grande, I realize how pleasant a trip to get a burrito can be. The are pretty nice at the Brighton Boca.
What's good
What do you order there? I've found their burritos big but a little bland. Lots of rice. You're right they're nice though. Anna's wasn't even very good food.... I miss El Pelon.
Beef Birria or Chili Verde
I love the Beef Birria. I never used to order steak burritos, but that stiff is good. Usually, I go for Chili Verde at both places. Both pale in comparison to El Pelon, I agree.
Que?
Was this Porter or Davis? I haven't ever seen them nasty at a customer - even at a deserving one at Davis. They have also been more patient when the kids get indecisive than I am.
Maybe it is the times of day we tend to go there - maybe they get bored and snarky later in the evening. As for the salsa thing, the servers will offer it up as salsa! As in "salsa?".
High service and high end stuff it ain't ... but we do eat there often and I've never seen anything like what Mike described. I wonder if it is the location or the time of day or if there are just a couple of bad employees that we have fortunately never encountered.
Or perhaps Mike is an
Or perhaps Mike is an extremely annoying customer...
Or maybe he just hates
Or maybe he just hates Latinos.
maybe he hates jews too
Because he went to the local deli and OY VEY the service there was terrible.
Seriously, what planet do you live on?
Puzzled
I'm more likely to go to the one at Porter Square, but I've never had nor seen a rudeness issue. Just an annoyance when the root beer dispenser is merely dispensing carbonated water. I'd say for the most part, the burritos are OK, but there are times when I'm lucky to get a good hunk of pork, and BOY is it good.
Tacos al Pastor!
Tacos al pastor are the only thing I eat at Anna's anymore.
Boca Grande on Mass Ave blows my mind. What do they have, like 6 kinds of chicken?
Anna's has always been nice to me in Davis Sq
and I've never seen anything like what Mike describes here.
This seems strange
I've been eating at all the different Anna's at least twice a week for at least 12 years. They have never been rude to me. My favorite guy on Cambridge Street, who used to work on Beacon Street always has a warm smile for us. The women cashiers are less friendly than the servers, but no one has ever been impolite. And I always remember to thank the guys who make the burritos.
That said, you can always tell when the boss has been around; I gather that he makes a tour through all the restaurants two or three times a year. And he's cheap. So no matter which shop you go to, your burrito will be much smaller for a week or so after he's been there. The servers temporarily become persnickety about how much rice and beans you get, and sometimes, if you order a regular, they don't want to give you any rice at all.
Salsa = sauce?
Isn't salsa just the word for sauce?
Yeah, yeah, I know... it's commonly used to mean a specific kind of Mexican (or pseudo-Mexican) sauce made from raw ingredients including some amount of hot pepper, etc. But I do occasionally come across the term salsa in cookbooks when they are referring generally to a sauce made in a Latin American style.
If the employees are making fun of the customer for calling Pico de Gallo "salsa," aren't they the ones who are literally incorrect?
No?
Pico de gallo isn't a sauce any more than any other pile of chopped raw veggies is.
Plus, they usually have several sauces, plus pico de gallo. So you have to tell them WHICH condiments you want. "Salsa" refers to a few of them, not including pico de gallo. Do you want green, red, mild, hot...?

Nano De Gallo
Yeah,I know it's pico de gallo ... but they often will pick up the spoon full of it and ask "salsa?".
Rude at Anna's??
I have been going to various Anna's for as long as they have been around, and I have never, ever had any rude staff there. Ever. At any of the outlets. I wonder what bozo behavior the customers were exhibiting to bring out the rudeness in the uniformly nice, hey, I'd even say SWEET, tempers of the counter help.
May be a bozo employee or two, too
I don't think it is fair to assume it is a bad customer issue. Asshats can walk either side of the counter. Given that the people who seem targeted are a certain type of young men, there may simply be some conflicts with the fixed-gear hipster infestation bringing out the homophobic bully side of the staff, too.
No problem at Anna's
I have also been eating at several different Anna's (including Porter and Davis) and have never encountered a rude employee.
