Anali reports a bill to create the position of Poet Laureate for the Commonwealth could go to the House for a vote this week:

We get to bloat the state

We get to bloat the state payroll for a fluff position, during a depression, when our taxes have been raised, and the state is still far in the red?

This particular brand of

This particular brand of fluff happens to be free. You have to read to the bottom of the bill. Unpaid, no benefits, honorary position. It is akin to small city/town boards and commissions where local residents are asked to step up for no payment and contribute their expertise to the betterment of the community at large.

Wonderful idea particularly for a state with such a rich literary history. It's unpaid and honorary, don't see how anyone could complain about that.
