This is awful. I was hoping that they would find him. I feel so sad for his family and girlfriend right now.

DA: No obvious sign of foul play

This just in from the Suffolk County DA's office:

Boston Police officers spotted the remains of William D. Hurley, 24, at about 2:00 this morning near Nashua Street. The officers notified the Boston Police Marine Unit, which took the body from the water. State Police detectives assigned to [DA Dan] Conley's office are leading the death investigation, however, because the Charles River is a state waterway.

Conley said Hurley's wallet and personal effects - including cash – were on his person when he was pulled from the water. Investigators noted that there was no fence or barrier at the water's edge near where Hurley’s body was found.

A preliminary examination today by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner did not reveal any significant trauma, investigators said, though additional toxicological tests will also be conducted. Those results could take several weeks.

Sad Story Reported in Sorry Way

Condolences to the Hurley family. The Globe reported "A body found early this morning in the Charles River belongs to a 24-year-old man who went missing last week after leaving a Boston Bruins game at the TD Garden, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F.Conley said today. What's up with the use of the word "belongs"?

Nashua Street Park

By Ron Newman | Thu, 10/15/2009 - 7:30am

To my knowledge, there is no railing or chain or other barrier between the park and the river bank. On the other hand, the park is wide enough that I can't see how someone standing on the Nashua Street sidewalk could just accidentally fall into the river.

You are correct

The DA's office noted the lack of railings at that point.

suicide?

By Lyndsay (not verified) | Thu, 10/15/2009 - 4:01pm

since it's not a homicide, and he couldn't have fallen in by accident...are they thinking suicide?

if it was, it's kind of a bizarre way to do it, don't you think? knowing his girlfriend was coming to pick him up?
