Boston Fire reports a two-alarm fire that broke out around 1:30 p.m. at the Parmlee Court Homes complex, 123 Northampton St. forced five people out of their apartments, but didn't injure anybody. The fire, knocked down in about 10 minutes, did $100,000 damage, the department says.

Yet another reason to use compact fluorescent light bulbs. They generate far less heat. They also suck less current, lowering the chance that wiring will deteriorate or overheat.
