Perpetually closed Hyde Park restaurant owes city $300,000

The Hyde Park Bulletin reports the owner of C.F. Donovan's, which has been nearing completion for a couple years now, is in default on two loans to the BRA's Boston Local Development Corp.

In June, C.F. Donovan's was fined for failing to use its liquor license; it's scheduled for a November hearing before the Boston Licensing Board to explain the continued non-use of what is considered a scarce resource (the board has told two West Roxbury restaurants they can't get liquor licenses because none is currently available).

Who else but the owner of this joint is a friend of Menino. Kiss your money goodbye taxpayers.

The place on Dot Ave closed yesterday. Brown paper on all the windows and a large sign posted on the side door from the city.

I've got news for you, Pal. Art Donovan has been EXTREMELY good to the neighborhood as long as I've lived here. He did a wonderful job with Patty's pantry until the cops threw a nutty because Art attended a State of the City address, and put out the word to boycott Patty's. the neighborhood lost a first-rate business, and what's there now doesn't even come close. Now, the best restaurant in the neighborhood is gone, in an area where the general run of businesses has gone downhill in the last 25 years. What's going to replace it? Probably another business like we already see too many of on Dot Ave.

Way to go. You don't care what happens to the neighborhood, as long as you bring down He Who Strays Off The Reservation.

Agreed, arthur and donovan's will be missed. I do think that someone will move in soon enough. He showed us that the location can work.. it'll work again.

Sorry to see Donovan's close. Don't why exactly but we should remember that a lot of people lost jobs when this happened. I was there on a couple of days before is closed and it did not appear they new this was coming. I hope you all land on your feet. Good luck to you Brian.
