More broken car windows in Jamaica Plain

Capt. Greland at E-13 reports three cars were broken into last night, on Parkton and Halifax streets and on Olmstead Street. A laptop was removed from one of the cars.

The Olmstead Street break-in is in the same area as 13 other car attacks on Oct. 23.

It's been in the globe for years, the local BPD police stations hand out flyers, and even groups like N4N have been distributing flyers, warning people NOT TO LEAVE THEIR GPS UNITS IN THEIR CARS. I think it was 3+ years ago that a friend had his unit stolen, and even then it was pretty well known that you don't leave that shit in the car.

Shockingly, the glovebox is not a magical invisible place to thieves..and they're not idiots. Seeing a GPS mount = decent chance the unit is in the car (and if not, there's no real "cost" to them.) Even seeing the marks left by the suction cups will make 'em break in.

It sucks that the police can't seem to do anything about it, but it was also pretty effin' boneheaded of you to leave the unit in your car.

Actually.....

These GPS bandits (usually junkies) are actually arrested more often than you probably think. And they usually strike during daytime hours (where many people actually leave them in their cars in plain view). Most often, these junkies ride bikes alongside parked cars fishing for a car with a GPS.

Then, when they are arrested they usually get probation the first 3 they do something like this, and then get 30-90 days the next 10 times.

Junkies that do car breaks rarely get any serious time. House break junkies usually get the 10 month + sentence for their crimes.

leaving your laptop in the car (probably on the back seat in plain view) = asking to get broken into.
