Fun at the intersection of Canal and New Chardon streets (possibly NSFW). No doubt by the same people who have fun with the Passenger Assistance and No Passing Through signs on the T.

Don't have time
I'd download it and zoom in with a better program, but I'm pretty sure those signs were retouched digitally. In the original size, there seems to be some blur where the C in Canal once stood.

They're real
I've seen the two MBTA ones IRL. They just scratch the letters off. That's what you get when you have late trains.
As for the street signs - street signs are signs with stick-on letters. If you see a really old sign you can see the letters peeling off on their own. So yes, you would see the ghost C's that were removed form the signs.
Blur not ghost
I'm not questioning the other links. As for the street sign, it's not a ghost. There's a blur for the shadows coming from the tree in the image. That happens when you smudge the green around to hide the cloning that you used to cover up the white C pixels. You can compare the reflected leaves where the C should be with the ones between CANAL and ST and see the difference in clarity.
