Roslindale is hardcore on Halloween

Creepy

Swamp Thing awaits next victim trick-or-treater on Glendower Rd.

Even on Halloween, it's kind of weird talking to a guy who looks like he just climbed out of a fetid swamp, surrounded by body parts and giant vampire bats. He said it took him about a week to get ready for tonight. As I was leaving, he gave me a wave, as much as his condition allowed, and muttered "Have a good Halloween!"

Have you gone down Grew Street lately?

Our favvorite Halloween decorated house in on Grew -- not too far from Canterbury. They have a large side lot -- and it is absolutely _full_ of Halloweeniana.

Is this the house you mean? It was pretty awesome.

Every year it gets a little more impressive.

At the end the little girl

At the end the little girl wants to leave because it's scary but to her credit she never screamed or cried or made a big fuss.

I'll tell her you said so.

No trick or treaters this year

In our neighborhood (between Durnell and the village) there was almost no-one out this year. Great weather, Saturday night- I don't get it. We only gave away half our candy.

Yeah, very strange

Nowhere near as many kids as usual in our neck of the woods on Grew Hill. Was so bad that on a couple of streets, clumps of adults who usually man their own doors were having impromptu little candy parties. Good news for the kidlet, though - double helpings for her!

Maybe the wind blew the lighter kids away?

My favorite costume

By adamg | Sat, 10/31/2009 - 9:06pm

This one boy was dressed as an old-school Bela Lugosi-style Dracula, right down to the bow tie and the slicked back hair. No sparkling, bushy sideburns for him!

I only had two batches in

I only had two batches in Dedham. That's probably the fewest in 20 years or more. Hard to figure.

On the other hand....

All our candy got given away -- and we saw some large groups of kids when out walking about ourselves.

Orange st

Got a 2yr old. Made arrangements with the ever friendly people on orange st. We walked around EN MASSE. Probably overwelmed the houses we visited.

Less than two dozen kids in

By Sarah | Sat, 10/31/2009 - 10:29pm

Less than two dozen kids in Roslindale between Lindall/Florence/Sycamore streets. (Also, only 2 out of 10 houses on *our* street were giving out candy, what's up with that?) But the trick or treating at the shops on Centre St in JP were absolutely mobbed around 5pm. Great fun for kids.

I wonder if Halloween

By ShadyMilkMan | Sun, 11/01/2009 - 9:05am

I wonder if Halloween falling on a Saturday made it easier to have more complex plans? More parents with kids taking their kids to little kiddie parties and more adults who would normally stay in and watch TCM and hand out candy heading to adult parties?

I would like to see a report back from Salem party goers. If Salem had a huge year that would be a quick way of seeing if that theory holds. I bet you that Salem was mobbed, mainly because none of my friends who went to Salem have reported back on Twitter/Facebook/Blogs which they normally do...

Funny... we had a lot

By anon (not verified) | Sun, 11/01/2009 - 9:12am

We had close to 200 kids stop by this year. We're on the Rozzie/West Roxbury line. At times, it did seem like there were fewer than years past. Perhaps because they relocated a lot of people from Washington-Beech.
