MBTA says: Be true to your escalators and they'll be true to you
The day after a panel released a report warning of, among other things, potential derailments on the Red Line, the T issued this alert for Red Line riders:
Attention: November 8th -14th is National Elevator and Escalator Safety week. Please pay careful attention when riding on our elevators and escalators, and please adhere to the safety rules at all times and when riding on an escalator with children, please pay careful attention and promptly step on and off the equipment. At the MBTA, we want you to have a safe enjoyable transportation experience.
Oh, yeah, the alert comes two days after news broke that the family of a woman who died on a T escalator has filed suit.

This "alert" was sent out for all subway lines
not just the Red Line.
I got it twice today, once for the Orange Line and once for the Green Line.
Great!
How long before they start sending out alerts telling you to drink Diet Coke or book a flight to Aruba?
The message board at
Melrose Highlands station this morning had a long blank gap between the "Don't get on a moving train" and the "All trains on schedule" messages that was punctuated with a single "V" in the middle of the gap.
Subliminal advertising for ABC perhaps?
Walk left, stand right
If the T is going to send out alerts about escalators, how about this simple rule?
That would be lovely!
That would be lovely - every time I go to Toronto I appreciate the reminders on pretty much EVERY escalator, and especially in the subway. Unfortunately, it's a difficult rule to apply in Boston because many escalators are too narrow to allow folks to pass standees, even if they were standing to the right.
And seen in the German-speaking world
Links gehen - Rechts stehen
D'oh
Du warst schneller als ich.

I like how the German version....
...rhymes.
;~}
Would be nice if people applied that on the highways
around here too.
Is this how the announcement goes?
"This is Deputy Chief Paul MacMillan of the MBTA reminding you to stay upright when riding escalators. Falling over by accident may cause serious injury, death, or both. So please do your part, and don't accidentally fall down when on the escalators. Thank you for letting us transfer responsibility back to you, and thank you for riding the T."
