I will admit I have not paid much attention to Brother Blue over the years, but I would have guessed he was in his 60s.

I recall being a stoner during my teens (and later, and sometimes now, but I digress) and listening to Brother Blue deliver stories on the radio while hanging with my friends. Was it on 'BCN? I think so. Always had a spot in my heart for him.

Brother Blue -- and his wife, whom he introduced as Mrs. Blue -- came to my school several times when I was a little kid. Years later, I ran into him on the street, smiled, and said hello; from his immediate smile and handshake, I figured then that he must have remembered me.

Later, I realized that I was probably one of a million people who probably came up to him with the same fond memory and that it was crazy to think he could remember one face out of all of those he'd seen.

Later still, when I saw him on the street walking and talking and smiling at kids two and three generations removed from my childhood, and when I saw the warmth and kindess with which he did it, I reconsidered: Maybe he did remember all of us.

I know we'll all remember him.

Some people have this attitude towards life where they just really really like other people and kids etc. Most of us reserve most of our kindness for those we know and are neutral towards those we do not know. I never met him but he sounds like one of those people who did not reserve his kindness for just his immediate friends. When you encounter someone like that it does not matter if they know/remember you or not because they treat everyone kindly.
