Ex-T head on critical T report: Yeah, it's right, T finances are broken

Dan Grabauskas wades into the blogosphere with analysis of the D’Alessandro report, basically says nothing new, MBTA finances have been a mess for years, but it's good that somebody other than people like him are saying so publicly. But he puzzles over "the head-scratching claims of a lack of transparency at the T."
At least, that's my take on Grabauskas's initial post. Dan can, of course, rebut that in a comment to this post.

Why Can't we...
privatize the 'T'?
Really, let's just start over.
service cuts
The company would immediately dump/cut service on all the unprofitable locations and times.
It's funny riding the T in different parts of the metro area; ride the bus in Cambridge and you'll see advertisements covering the walls and the light-board section.
Go into JP and ride the 39 (supposedly the most or second most trafficked bus route in the entire system), and there isn't a single ad posted. Kinda funny to see how racist advertisers still are.
The difference is that the T still runs the 39 bus, even if it can't sell ads on the busses...
racist?
I doubt there's a significant racial difference between the #1 and #39 bus ridership. Both serve major universities and hospitals, and both travel between 'minority' and 'white' sections of the cities.
