Friendly Toast in a jam

The Tech reports on the new - but already popular - Kendall Square haunt's financial issues.

Fair is fair

If Cambridge can bail out Toscanini's, they should be able to do something for The Friendly Toast.

Then again, that was pretty dumb of them to pay for the landlord's problems in Portsmouth. They should be in court right now trying to get their money back on the repairs to bring their space up to code.

Seriously.

If the building's problems were a pre-existing condition and the problems keep it from meeting code, there is absolutely no reason why the landlord should push the cost of repairs on the tenant.

Either there's more to this than the story let on or the Friendly Toast was calling the landlord's bluff (the Portsmouth location is in a big, funky space right downtown, and I am sure the landlord could get lots more rent from a chain. It's the only justification I can find for "Fix it yourself or move out.")

hmmmm

That's a bit strange. How could it cost 50K to train staff. And why was the staff 'not needed' - when you read almost every review on line and they all complain about slow service??

sounds like

they could use some bread.

Prices too low?

If the place is always thronged with people but is still losing money, maybe they need to adjust their prices a bit.
