Will Roche Bros. be having a sale on smoked meats?

Around 8:45 p.m., Local 718 tweeted BFD was racing over to Roche Bros. in West Roxbury for "a smoke condition in the rear of the store." There weren't any further tweets, so it probably wasn't anything major, so Westie residents can rest easy, right?

Let's hope this doesn't

Let's hope this doesn't cause them to rearrange any aisles.

Thank god that we have

Thank god that we have tweets to let us know that we don't know anything, so we can ask zillions of people if there's anything we don't know worth knowing. And that a fire department official is using work time to do all of that not-really-saying-anything.

Here's a plan: Every day at 6 a.m., BFD sends out a single tweet that says: "Will be going on calls today." Then at midnight, we all go online and ask each other what, if anything, happened that day. Then we declare a triumph of infotech progress.

Guess I should get over there, asap

I don't want to risk anything, sounds as if I need to schedule my trip, asap.

Perhaps I'll do my Thanksgiving shopping there.

Do they sell turkeys and cranberry sauce in a can? Things are different out your way. Probably lots of strange brands. And they probably call soda "pop".

Will one of the high school kids bag my groceries and will he do it right? Will he take it to my car and put the bags in for me? I promise to tip.

I've had a little too much Napien. Sorry.

Pop?

The old Roche Bros., on the other side of Centre, used to have a "tonic" aisle.

Tonic

same deal with the Star on Beacon St. (at least before the recent renovation). It used to be so amusing to hear people (usu. college kids from greater New York) say , "I don't want tonic water - where the hell is the soda?"

Yes they do take your bags

Yes they do take your bags to your car. And no, no one with ever call tonic "pop."

Do they even have supermarkets there?

They have cranberry sauce in a can in the canned vegetable aisle.
They have turkey in a can in the pet food aisle. The aisle that used to be marked "tonic" now says "beverages", or something like that. If you go during the day, the person bagging your groceries is likely to be elderly, not a high school kid. They'll take your stuff out to your car, and some of them seem a little annoyed if you participate in putting the bags in the trunk. You aren't allowed to tip.
