Pretty neat. Think how different the green would look if people could actually tap their cards on street level stops.

Besides not accounting for people paying at fareboxes on the surface Green Line, the MBTA data used doesn't seem to account for people transfering between lines at the downtown stops. The Silver Line Waterfront shows a lot more people getting on at Courthouse/Waterfront/etc in the afternoon, than people transferring to it from the Red Line at South Station in the morning, even though my observations are that the buses are as crowded leaving South Station in the morning as they are arriving in the afternoon. I would suspect it also dosen't show people boarding the Green Line from the Blue Line at Government Center or from the Red Line at Park St., etc. It just seems to document boarding at faregates, which isn't the whole story as far as total people on each line at any given time.

I dont know what data they used, but in the annual reports, the MBTA has some formulas to account for transfers (adding and subtracting riders from lines). They also have a formula for surface stops. I dont know how accurate those formulas are.

Dear MBTA: Note how the green line gets a ridership bump at night while the other lines have low ridership? How about taking that into account when you decide to send out singles at 9pm?

Unfortunately it seems as though you can't see the full-size versions, and therefore most of the data is too tiny to read.
